East St. Louis man sentenced to 55 years for killing 3 women

A 25-year-old East St. Louis man convicted of shooting three women to death was sentenced to spend the next 55 years in prison.

Milton Lattimore Jr. was sentenced Wednesday by St. Clair County Circuit Judge John Baricevic.

Lattimore was convicted of killing Jaimaca McDaniel, 24, Tenikia Harvey, 26, and Raykel N. Gathing, 26, all of East St. Louis. Lattimore was McDaniel's ex-boyfriend.

The women were gunned down as they sat in a car at a gas pump at a Crown Food Mart in East St. Louis.

Children were also present in the car at the time of the shooting, but they were not injured.

St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly said experts determined Lattimore had "diminished mental capacity."

Kelly said the state asked for a 60-year sentence while the defense asked for a 30-year sentence.

Lattimore will not be eligible for parole until he is 76.

"As with any case, we try to minimize the risk of an acquittal and minimize the risk to public safety while seeking the maximum justice," Kelly said in a statement.
