A Belleville man and two women were charged in connection with an attempted burglary at a Granite City tavern.

The following suspects were charged Thursday with attempted burglary: James L. Piker, 45, of 14 Woodhaven Court in Belleville; Lea Ann Mamino, 29, of 14 Iris Lane in Granite City; and Denise K. Dodson, 43, of 3308 VFW Lane in Collinsville.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday, the Madison County Sheriff's Office responded to a burglary in process at the Inn Between Tavern, 5200 Maryville Road. When deputies arrived, Piker ran from the building allegedly holding a crow bar, back pack, two-way radio and a pair of pliers. Deputies inspected the building and found that exterior electrical lines and a door were damaged, according to Madison County Sheriff Robert J. Hertz.

Police determined that Piker was driven to the tavern in a gold Ford truck. Minutes later they found the truck at the intersection of Maryville and Old Alton roads in Granite City, with Dodson and Mamino inside. Evidence linked all three to the attempted burglary, Hertz said.

The three subjects were taken to the Madison County Jail. Bail for each suspect was set at $75,000.

In addition, Piker was charged with possession of burglary tools.
