East St. Louis man charged in shooting of security guard

An East St. Louis man faces felony charges for allegedly shooting a security guard at a public housing complex on Wednesday.

Peter Hester Jr. was arrested shortly after the 4:30 p.m. shooting. The guard, Deputy Jame Korba, was shot in the foot during a struggle at the Waverly Building. Hester had been banned from entering the building.

Hester faces charges of aggravated battery with a firearm to a security officer and reckless discharge of a firearm. If convicted of the aggravated battery charge, Hester faces between 15 and 60 years in prison.
