Many people argue that giving an "experience" for Christmas is better than hauling more "stuff" into the house.

That's great news for those who have waited until the last minute to buy presents.

A quick phone call, online order or trip to a box office will allow you to treat someone to a play, concert, rodeo, dance performance, cooking show or professional wrestling match.

Next year's choices range from a Jimi Hendrix tribute at the Fox Theatre to concerts by The Avett Brothers at Peabody Opera House or One Direction at the Edward Jones Dome; a new "Disney on Ice" extravaganza at Scottrade Center, comic relief from Jeff Dunham at The Family Arena and musicals such as "Grease" or "Hello, Dolly!" at The Muny.

Fox Theatre

The Fabulous Fox will continue to host "Elf: The Musical" through Dec. 29 ($25 to $80). Single tickets for The Muny don't go on sale until May 31, but you can buy gift cards starting at $10. The Hett

The Pageant

SIUE Arts and Issues
