Missouri offers help for the wrong business

December 18, 2013

So Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon is trying to lure Boeing to build its plane in St. Louis? Where were our politicians when they agreed to tear down the two Chrysler plants in Fenton, which impacted 43,000 tax-paying jobs, a couple short years ago? Now they want to give away the tax benefit for a mere 8,000 manufacturing jobs.

They couldn't wait to tear down the two state-of-the-art auto plants that produced some of the most popular vehicles on the road today, the Dodge pickup truck and the Chrysler minivan. And they didn't have to give away any tax incentives to keep the plants. All they had to do was wait until the auto industry turned around like they have in the past. Those 43,000 tax-paying jobs would be productive now and Chrysler would have been back to paying city and state taxes again.

So doesn't it seem strange why our leaders were in such a hurry to tear down those two beautiful, magnificent plants? You know, of course, that Chrysler just spent $1.2 billion to build a new plant in Mexico. The company wouldn't have had to waste its money had St. Louis left those plants alone and again our area would have 43,000 tax-paying jobs.

Doesn't this seem strange to you or is just me? By the way that land is still for sale. What a waste to the St. Louis taxpayers. What a loss to the St. Louis tax payers. What a crime to the St. Louis tax payers.
