Spring in December: Warmer, wet weather on the way

The high temperature in the metro-east is expected to reach 55 degrees Thursday under mostly cloudy skies, according to the National Weather Service .

That's 13 degrees higher than the average high temperature for Dec. 19 in the St. Louis area, 42.

Rain, which is expected to last through the weekend, will likely start Thursday evening when there will be a 60 percent chance of showers and a low temperature of 47.

There is a 50 percent chance of rain Friday during the day when the temperature will peak early at 52 and then fall through the afternoon. The chance of rain will increase to 70 percent overnight when the temperature will remain just over freezing at 34.

On Saturday there is a 90 percent chance of rain with a high of 39 and a low of 36.
