Thankful for Hartlein's years of service

December 19, 2013

We thank God for sharing Monsignor Jerome Hartlein with us. He was with us for more than 40 years and spread God's word throughout the area. He led a life of caring, loving, kindness, generosity, visiting the sick and shut-ins, and being here for us when we needed him.

Mascoutah knew and loved him and he knew and loved the town. He knew us all by name whether we were Catholic or not. We worked, played and prayed together.

Hartlein was a gifted, intelligent and spiritual mentor. God knew he did an excellent job and needed a rest so he called him home on Dec. 1. We appreciate a job well done and will miss him and always remember him.
