Battle won't be forgotten

December 19, 2013

Monday was the 69th anniversary of the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge as the German army counterattacked the allied forces in the Belgium- Luxemburg area known as the Ardennes Forest.

This battle lasted six weeks, during which time the American Army suffered more than 81,000 casualties including 19,000 killed in action.

The weather in the Belleville area is a reminder of what the American GI had to endure during this battle. The weather was the worst the area had seen in the last 50 years. The American GI not only had to fear the attacking German army but also the cold and freezing weather.

Those of us who were there will never forget.

God bless our troops and God bless America.
