Carlyle holds off Central; numerous teams still unbeaten

Looking to regain momentum, Carlyle got 23 points from Logan Zachry and 17 from Matt Hilmes on Friday in a 57-50 Cahokia Conference win over the Central Cougars.

Carlyle (6-1 overall, 1-1 in league play) held off a fourth-quarter comeback bid by Central (5-4, 2-1), which got 18 points from senior guard Jacob Timmermann. Timmermann went over 1,000 points in his career Friday.

Sophomore Logan Kohrmann had nine for Central and Jack Strieker had eight.

Edwardsville 60, Granite City 35

The Edwardsville Tigers moved to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the Southwestern Conference by hammering Granite City (1-7, 0-4). Edwardsville senior guard Shawn Roundtree had 20 points and Southern Illinois University Carbondale recruit Armon Fletcher tossed in 16. Granite City got 18 points from Kenny Berry.

Freeburg 52, Columbia 43

Freeburg's Jacob Mueller erupted for 25 points and Kennesaw State recruit Justin Diecker added 14 as Freeburg (3-5, 2-1) posted another solid Cahokia Conference win over Columbia (3-3, 0-1). Korbin Farmer and Trey Search each led Columbia with 13 points.

Mater Dei 72, Quincy Notre Dame 52

Mater Dei (5-3) made its long trip to Quincy a productive one with a solid win that featured a balanced offensive attack. Ben Lampe led the Knights with 17 points while Sam Toennies and Eric Vandeloo each had 15.

Nashville 52, Sparta 41

Sophomore Royce Newman clocked in with 19 points and Daniel Thorson contributed 11 as the Nashville Hornets (5-2 overall, 2-0 in league play) knocked off Sparta (5-4, 0-2) in a River-to-River Conference game.

New Athens 52, Lebanon 43

Tyler Meyer scored 15 points, Nick Ozier had 13 and Jimmy Kiefer added 10 as New Athens (3-3, 2-0) held off Lebanon (2-5, 2-1) in a Cahokia Conference-Kaskaskia Division game. Lebanon got 20 points from Tywansley Lashley and 12 from Taylor Schmitt.

Wesclin 60, Red Bud 51

In a Cahokia Conference game with more than a little intensity, Wesclin (3-3, 1-1) held off Red Bud (1-5, 0-2) as the Warriors got 17 points each from Alex Smith and Jarad Steenbergen. Justin Goff contributed 14 for the Warriors, while Red Bud's Josh Snyder led all scorers with 20 points.

Alton 71, Collinsville 50

Alton (7-0) remained unbeaten with a decisive Southwestern Conference win over Collinsville as Mike Williams-Bey led the way wit 20 points. Darrius Edwards had 19 for Alton, now 4-0 in the SWC, while Sean Davis, Harrison Wethers and Anfirnee Wilkinson all had 10 points for Collinsville (3-6, 0-4).

Gibault 77, Marissa 41

Gibault (7-0) got 20 points from Wes Degener while Nick Row had 17 and Mitch Meyer had 15 as the Hawks ran past Marissa. Freshman Kyle Smith had 13 points for Marissa.

Okawville 82, Steeleville 52

Jacob Brammeier scored 25 points and Noah Frederking had 19 as Okawville (6-0) overwhelmed Steeleville. Alec Wisneski added 12 points for the Rockets.

Highland 60, Triad 48

Aaron Elledge had 14 points and Austin Elledge had 13 to help lead Highland (6-2, 3-1) past Triad (1-8, 0-2) in a Mississippi Valley Conference game. Triad's Jason Barbour led all scorers with 17 points.
