Police identify woman found in trunk in Madison

Police on Saturday released the name of a woman whose body was found in the trunk of a car Friday morning in Madison.

The woman was identified as 50-year-old Sybil A. Brandon of 4636 Margaretta Ave. in St. Louis, according to Maj. Jeff Connor, Deputy Commander of the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis.

According to preliminary autopsy results, Brandon died as a result of a gunshot wound to the head.

Brandon's body was found about 9 a.m. Friday when police with the Madison Police Department prepared to tow an abandoned 1996 maroon Ford Taurus. The vehicle had been tagged at West Third and Jackson streets. Police were searching the vehicle when they found Brandon's body in the trunk. The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated to investigate Brandon's death.

Brandon was reported missing from St. Louis on Nov. 29 and was last seen in St. Louis on Nov. 25. The vehicle was tagged as abandoned in the city of Madison on Thanksgiving Day.

The Major Case Squad continues to investigate leads and asks anyone with any information about the disappearance and death of Brandon, to contact the squad at the Madison Police Department at 876-4300.
