Police arrest suspects in Craigslist robberies

News-DemocratDecember 24, 2013

— Police arrested three people suspected of luring robbery victims with Craigslist ads after a third incident.

Police believe that the perpetrators posted Craigslist ads about selling a television. When people showed up to buy the television, they were beaten and robbed.

On Dec. 15, the person responding to the ad was hit with a baseball bat, but was able to get away before any money was taken. The second person was beaten with the bat and forced to give up an undetermined amount of money on Dec. 17.

On Dec. 22, a person arrived to buy the television and was robbed at gunpoint of an undetermined amount of money.

In each case, the people responding to the ad were directed to an unoccupied apartment, according to Collinsville Police.

Three people have been arrested, and a fourth is believed to have been involved, police said. The names of the suspects were not released, pending formal charges.

Madison County State's Attorney Tom Gibbons said he expects charges to be presented on Thursday.
