State funding to repair bridge along Interstate 64 in Washington Park

News-DemocratDecember 26, 2013

More than $15.3 million in state funding will pay for bridge repairs and resurfacing along Interstate 64 from 18th Street to Route 111 in Washington Park.

The project is part of the Illinois Jobs Now! capital construction program, according to a statement from Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. The program is funded through the state's sale of bonds.

"Our investment will make travel through the metro-east area safer and more efficient," Quinn said. "The project will also employ a number of construction workers, which will help the local economy."

State Rep. Jay Hoffman, a Democrat of Swansea, agreed.

"These types of investments are critical to the ongoing efforts to ensure that job-creating businesses are able to transport their products across the region efficiently."

The Kilian Corporation of Mascoutah will perform the work with state officials overseeing the project.
