A 19-year-old Cahokia man has been charged with stealing from his employer -- Target in Shiloh.

Virgil D. Lockett was charged Thursday with two counts of retail theft over $300 -- each a class three felony.

Shiloh police arrested Lockett on Christmas Eve at Target, 3400 Green Mount Crossing Drive, according to Assistant Police Chief Gary McGill.

McGill said Target had been investigating Lockett internally since at least Dec. 18.

"Mr. Lockett was running a gift card scam to get merchandise," he said. McGill wouldn't provide specific details about the scam.

Lockett is currently being held in St. Clair County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bond.
