News-DemocratDecember 28, 2013

— A 50-year-old Cahokia man was struck by a vehicle and critically injured while walking on Illinois 15 near Pocket Road about 8:15 p.m. Friday.

The injured man was taken to a St. Louis hospital.

A 38-year-old New Athens woman driving the westbound vehicle was taken to Memorial Hospital in Belleville.

Police Chief Larry Austell said this appears to be an accident because the man walked out in front of the vehicle.

Austell did not release names of the people involved in the collision.
