One dead, one injured in Fairmont City crash

A Collinsville man is dead and his female passenger were injured in a one-car crash Sunday.

The accident happened at about 10 a.m. Sunday in the 7500 block of Forest Boulevard in Fairmont City. According to police reports, the eastbound Jeep was being driven by Alfredo Rios-Santos, 21 of Collinsville. It left the roadway, went through a ditch and struck a tree on the north side of Forest Boulevard.

There was no skid marks or signs of braking prior to the impact with the tree. An open container of beer and cannabis were found in the front seat area of the vehicle.

Rios-Santos was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by St. Clair County Deputy Coroner Orville Crump.

Passenger Eva Guadalupe Solis, 28 of St. Paul, Minn., was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Caseyville Volunteer Fire Department using the "jaws of life." Solis was transported to an unidentified hospital for treatment. She is in stable condition, according to Fairmont City Police.

Police continue to investigate the crash.
