Man shot in targeted attack in Belleville; police arrest 2

A man was shot early Sunday morning in the first block of Periwinkle Circle in Belleville.

Belleville police officials say the shooting was not a random attack as the victim was familiar with the alleged suspects. They did not say what provoked the shooting.

According to Belleville police, the male victim, who suffered a single gunshot wound, was transported to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment. His current condition is unknown.

Belleville detectives are investigating the incident that happened at 4:14 a.m. Sunday and have arrested two suspects, according to police.

Charges are expected to be filed Tuesday.
