Wanted sex offender found inside home near O'Fallon

News-DemocratDecember 31, 2013

An East St. Louis man, sought by police for being a sex offender who failed to register with them, has been charged with burglary and forgery after he was found in his former employer's home near O'Fallon.

A woman who lives on Old Vincennes Trail came home Friday to find Derek McCaster inside her house. She told McCaster to leave. After he did, she discovered that several personal checks were missing.

During the investigation by the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department, it was determined that the missing checks were written to a female and then they were cashed.

It was also determined that McCaster was wanted for being a sex offender who failed to register with local police, which added another felony charge against him, and that he had an active warrant for a sex offender registration violation out of Cleveland.

McCaster is being held in St. Clair County Jail on $75,000 bail.
