BELLEVILLE — The Lindenwood University-Belleville men's basketball team scored a 100-91 victory Saturday over the Redhawks of Indiana Northwest.
The Lynx took a 31-7 lead with 8:22 left in the first half, but the Redhawks would not go away. The Redhawks cut the deficit to five in the second half, but the Lynx would pull away late on their way to the victory.
The Lynx jumped out to an early six-point lead after a three point basket byJakob Hollandand four points fromCraig Anderson. After a basket by Cody Artuso the Redhawks cut the deficit to four. From there the Lynx went on a 22-4 run to extend their lead to 24. Anderson capped off the run with a free throw.
With 5:30 remaining in the first halfTyler Boringattempted a dunk after an offensive rebound and ended up shattering the backboard. After a fifteen minute delay the game picked up in the recreational gym.
After the break the Redhawks started on a 6-0 run to cut the deficit to 13. The Lynx extended the lead back to 18 with 1:20 left in the first half and after trading baskets the Lynx took a 48-32 lead at the break.
Lawson led the Lynx in the first half with 13 points and eight rebounds. The Lynx shot forty-two percent from the field, compared to the Redhawks thirty-one percent.
Warren made a layup and a free throw to start the second half to extend the Lynx lead to 19. From there the Redhawks went on an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to 10. Brandon Grubl capped off the run with a free throw. The Lynx extended the lead back to 14 after a basket by Warren and two free throws by Anderson.
The Redhawks cut the deficit to six with 11:45 remaining in the second half after a layup by Artuso. After trading baskets back and forth the Redhawks cut the deficit to five after a three pointer by Brandon Reyes.
The Lynx extended the lead back to 12 with 6:20 remaining after a layup by Anderson. Quentin Palmer connected on a three pointer for the Redhawks with sixteen seconds left in the game to cut the deficit to nine, but that is as close as they would get. The Lynx went on to win 100-91.
Anderson led all scorers with 31 points and 15 rebounds. He connected on 22 of 27 free throws for the game. Warren added 23 points and 12 rebounds, picking up his first double-double of the season.Brandon Ehlingerchipped in 15 points off the bench. The Lynx shot forty-five percent from the field and seventy-three percent from the free throw line.
With the win the Lynx move to 10-6 on the season. The Redhawks fall to 3-13.
The Lynx will host the Eagles of Central Methodist University on Monday. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
