Hall of Fame official will speak to local sports group

— Illinois high school boys basketball official Scott Posey will be the guest speaker Friday at the monthly meeting of the Belleville Area Senior Men's Sports Group.

Anyone interested in attending the 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. event at the PSOP building at 201 N. Church St. can make reservations by calling 234-4410, extension 7016.

Retired since 2010 as an assistant principal at Belleville West, Posey is in his 40th season as a referee and has worked two state final tournaments (2006 and 2007).

Inducted into the Illinois High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2010, he also has worked men's junior college and National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics games as well as high school football.

A three-sport athlete at Jerseyville High, Posey earned NAIA All-America basketball honors in 1974 as a guard at Westminster College in Fulton, Mo.

Also named to the Mon-Clair League and Greater St. Louis Amateur Baseball halls of fame, he is an assistant baseball coach at Lindenwood-Belleville. Previously, he was head baseball coach at Alton High School and at Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey.
