St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Sobotka will make his first appearance in the Winter Olympics playing for his native Czech Republic in Sochi, Russia.
Another Blues player expected to make the team, veteran defenseman Roman Polak, was not included on the roster announced Monday.
Polak has been out with a lower body injury and was placed on injured reserve Dec. 21.
Sobotka is the Blues' eighth-leading scorer with six goals and 20 points in 35 games. A versatile forward, Sobotka can play center or wing and also is among the team's top special teams players on the power play and penalty kill units.
There were 16 NHL players on the Czech Republic's 23-man Olympic squad, including Jaromir Jagr and 42-year-old former Blues forward Petr Nedved.
Among the notable names left off the list were Polak, Calgary's Jiri Hudler and Radim Vrbata of the Phoenix Coyotes.
Team Canada will announce its Olympic team roster on Tuesday and Blues defenseman Alex Pietrangelo and Jay Bouwmeester are both expected to make the team.
Blues forwards David Backes and T.J. Oshie and defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk were named to the Team USA roster last week.
