Granite City police warn residents to beware of theft potential

News-DemocratJanuary 8, 2014

Police in Granite City are warning residents to be wary of people who are offering to shovel snow or do other chores who ask to enter a resident's home.

Capt. Darin Clements said there have been some reports from people suspicious of snow shovelers who requested to come inside to use the phone or bathroom.

"We're warning citizens not to let anybody in," Clements said. "We haven't had any thefts. But there were a couple of attempts. People have been alert enough not to let anyone in."

The department posted a notice on Facebook warning residents about the potential for theft when a stranger enters the home.
