A Belleville man has been charged with two felony counts of home repair fraud after he took money to fix damaged houses but then failed to do the work.

According to St. Clair County court records, Arnold Walters, 62 of 201 Oliver Lee Drive, has had his bail set at $100,000. He is not in custody and police are asking for help to locate him.

St. Clair County Sheriff Rick Watson said at least seven home owners were victimized by Walters. He collected at least $18,000 from them including a $7,000 down payment from a Mascoutah resident estimated to have $9,825 worth of damage to his home.

Investigators said they believe that Walters never intended to do the work because he did not have employees qualified to do the jobs and he never purchased the building materials necessary for the repairs.

If you have information about where Walters is or if you believe you were a victim of the scam, call the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department at 277-3505.
