A former Monroe County resident pleaded guilty in federal court Friday to two counts of child pornography.
Former Columbia resident Neil E. Purdy, 29, faces at least five to 20 years in prison and up to a $250,000 fine, plus must register as a sex offender.
Purdy, who was a member of the Navy Reserve with top secret clearance, admitted to Columbia police officers that he possessed videos and images of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct on his laptop computer, which police later seized. Investigators found 20 videos and seven images of minors engaged in sexually explicit behavior on the computer.
Sentencing is scheduled for May 16 in East St. Louis. Purdy has been held without bail since April 26.
