Mascoutah mayor named vice president of municipal league committee

News-DemocratJanuary 14, 2014

Mascoutah Mayor Jerry Daugherty has been appointed the first vice president to the Illinois Municipal League Legislative Board and will serve as the board's president next year.

Daugherty, who has served on the municipal league's board of directors since 2007 and has been mayor since 1999, said he looks forward to leading the effort to serving on behalf of the 1,123 municipalities across the state.

"Primarily what we do is we are the lobbyist for municipalities in the state of Illinois," Daugherty said. "It's all about looking at what's out there and trying to influence legislation in favor of the municipalities."

Three other metro-east officials serve in the municipal league. Belleville Mayor Mark Eckert serves on the municipal league's legislative committee, the general governance committee and the personnel and pensions committee. O'Fallon City Manager Walter Denton also serves on the personnel and pensions committee. O'Fallon Planning and Zoning Administrator Ted Shekell is on the municipal league's land use committee.
