Madison County woman faces heroin charge after traffic stop

A Madison County woman has been charged with possession of a controlled substance after police claimed she was discovered to have heroin and clonazepam during a routine traffic stop.

Cathy A. Sewell, 35, of 207 Clover St. in Moro, was pulled over at about 12:30 Tuesday on Illinois 140 in Bethalto for improper lane usage. A search of her vehicle revealed three hypodermic syringes, a spoon found to be contaminated with heroin residue and two clonazepam tablets, according to police.

Sewell was jailed on $30,000 bail. She was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and ticketed for improper lane usage.
