Interstate 70 to close downtown for the weekend

News-DemocratJanuary 17, 2014

Travel in downtown St. Louis could be rough this weekend because of the planned closure of Interstate 70 for bridge demolition.

According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, I-70 will be closed in both directions between the Poplar Street Bridge and Pine Street so the Walnut Street bridge can be removed.

During the work the Eads Bridge will also be closed, as will the I-70 reversible lanes north of the construction area.

The road will be shut down Friday at about 8 p.m. after rush hour traffic has cleared. Workers hope to have the roads open by 5 a.m. Monday.
