A fire gutted two homes and two apartments in Venice Friday afternoon and left 10 people homeless.

The Venice Police are investigating the blaze that occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the 600 block of Lincoln Street. The American Red Cross in St. Louis was called to help four families who lost their homes. Spokeswoman Peggy Barnhardt said the fire has displaced 10 people.

"We are providing shelter for the families and we gave them food and clothing," Barnhardt said. "It was pretty bad."
