No signs of foul play after woman's body found in Pontoon Beach lake

An autopsy on a woman found in a Pontoon Beach lake showed no evidence of foul play.

Authorities discovered the body of Pamela Butkovich, 53, of 328 Osprey Drive, Friday morning floating in Mallard Lake, located off Illinois 162.

"An autopsy conducted on Saturday failed to reveal any suspicious findings or evidence of foul play associated with this death," said Madison County Chief Deputy Coroner Roger Smith.

At this time the death is being attributed to exposure and hypothermia.

The water in the lake was 34.7 degrees when the body was discovered, Smith said.

Routine toxicological analysis for the presence of alcohol or drugs remain pending, Smith said.

While on the scene at the lake, Pontoon Police received a missing persons report filed by the woman's husband, 64-year-old Gary Butkovich. He told police that he found a note that his wife left in their home that indicated she might do harm to herself.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Irwin Chapel Funeral Home in Granite City.
