Troy woman crowned Miss Metro East

Dairyn Tye, of Troy, was crowned Miss Metro East on Saturday at the first Miss Metro East Pageant, held in the Lindenwood University-Belleville auditorium.

The 20-year-old was crowned by Miss Illinois Brittany Smith, who emceed the event.

Winners in other age catergories were:

Miss Metro East Outstanding Teen (13-17 years old): Kelsey Strong, 17, of Metropolis

The Miss, Teen and Preteen will go on to compete for Miss Illinois and Miss Illinois Outstanding Teen and Preteen in June in Marion.

The Princesses go on to the Miss Illinois Princess Mentoring Program with the Miss Illinois contestants. Miss Illinois is a preliminary pageant for Miss America.

The Miss Metro East contestants participated in active wear, evening gown, talent, interview and on-stage question categories.

The winners received scholarships to Lindenwood Unniversity-Belleville. All contestants can send transcripts to see if they meet the criteria for admission and can also receive scholarships from Lindenwood.
