Okawville and T-town post wins at Highland

Okawville eliminated Wesclin and Teutopolis ended Highland's championship hopes Wednesday night at the Highland Invitational.

Allison Koch led all scorers for Okawville as the Rockets shaded Wesclin 40-36. The Rockets will play Belleville West or Carlyle at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the consolation semifinals.

West and Carlyle had a late game Wednesday and the result was not known at press start. Both teams were trying to remain in title contention after posting victories Saturday.

No other Okawville player reached double figures. Wesclin was paced by Carrie Rakers (16 points) and Zoe Christopher (12). Okawville trailed 13-10 after one quarter, but took a 22-18 lead.

Wesclin tied the game at 26 after three quarters, but Okawville outscored the Warriors 14-10 in the final period.

Highland, which defeated Wesclin 41-24 on Saturday, hung with Teutopolis until the closing stages and fell to the Wooden Shoes 39-36. Teutopolis opened the tournament with an easy win over Okawville 38-15.

In the other consolation semifinal on Thursday, Althoff will play Nokomis at 5 p.m., preceding the Okawville game against West or Carlyle.

The big game Thursday has Central and Mater Dei meeting in the semifinals at 8 p.m.
