Street confusion starts blame game

January 23, 2014

On Jan. 15, I called the St. Clair County Sheriff's office and talked to the Desk Sergeant on duty (he did not reveal his name) about two pieces of information in the blotter. Number 1 was an address on St. Leo Drive reported as being in East St. Louis and not corrected to read Cahokia. Number 2 was reported as Rear Grand, Cahokia. No such street exists in Cahokia. The Sheriff's Department blamed the News-Democrat for the errors. However, the Fairview Heights and Lebanon Police Departments wrote the information for the blotter and never audited by the sheriff before publication in the News-Democrat. Maybe it is high time for the police and the sheriff to stop blaming the News-Democrat for erroneous information provided by the perps to the police and sheriff's departments.
