Team effort falling out of style

January 23, 2014

As I read the papers, and see on the news about school athletes setting new school record for points scored, it reminds me of when I was in school several years ago. In particular then coach Harrison Fuller's basketball team. He stressed that the game was a "team effort" and was not up to one or two individuals to play, or win the game, as seems to be the case now. Correct me if I am wrong, but the names of players who come to mind were George Lesinger and Curt Gielow. Mr. Fuller said they were well capable of setting school records, but took it upon themselves to pass the basketball to other teammates, so as to not take all the credit. I was in Mr. Fuller's history class, and he often mentioned this.

Speaking of school, I was wondering if the Class of 1966 (Red Bud) had a 45-year reunion a few years ago. If so, I did not receive an invitation; either they did forgot me, or for some reason did not invite me (surely not).
