Move township meetings

January 24, 2014

In a recent letter from Joy Schreiber, a Trustee of Belleville Township, she recommended receiving an agenda and detailed proposed spending information no less than 48 hours before the Township Board's regular meetings.

I wholeheartedly agree that this seems common sense and believe that the agenda should be made available to all by being online and physically posted in a public place so that the public can know what happens in these meetings.

Of course, I would like to be able to attend their meetings, but since I have a job with regular business hours (as do most residents who work and pay taxes), I won't be able to attend their 3:00 p.m. meetings on Tuesdays. By not holding meetings after normal work hours, they are keeping me and everyone else they represent ignorant of everything they do and how our tax dollars are spent. Their meetings should be held in the evenings or Saturdays so that all can see what they are doing with our money.
