Collinsville Post Office to relocate

News-DemocratJanuary 25, 2014

— The post office in downtown Collinsville will close Friday and will reopen at the Gateway Center.

Postmaster Yvonne Spears said the post office at 130 S. Center St. will close at noon Friday. On Monday morning, the post office will reopen at 1610 Eastport Plaza Drive, where a postal carrier annex has been operating.

According to city records, the owner of downtown building is from Chicago. Spears said the post office had leased the space. She did not know how long the post office had operated from there, but said the post offices' carriers had been working at the annex. All employees will now be in the same building.

"We were pretty much going between two buildings," Spears said. "Some were working down here some were up there. Now everyone will be under one roof."
