Fire destroys Alorton house; Red Cross helps displaced residents

A home in Alorton appears to be a complete loss after an early Friday morning fire.

According to fire department reports, the blaze started at just before 1 a.m. in the 4800 block of McCasland Avenue. It took until about 4 a.m. to finally douse the flames.

The family that lived in the house was able to escape safely. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents by providing a place to stay and other necessities.

The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
