A California man arrested in Illinois in 2012 was sentenced Friday for transporting child pornography and for traveling in interstate commerce to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor child.
David Michael Thompson, 27, of Temecula, Calif., was sentenced in federal court to 17 years and six months in prison.
According to court documents, an Illinois State Trooper conducted a traffic stop on Oct. 24, 2012 of Thompson's 2008 Honda Civic and found a 16-year-old female passenger who had been reported missing from the Cincinnati area. Thompson's cellphone had two photographs depicting the girl engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
According to the victim, she and Thompson met on Internet social networking sites. Between Sept. 23, 2012, and Oct. 22, 2012, Thompson and the victim agreed that Thompson would drive from California to Ohio to pick the victim up and the two would drive back to California, where the victim would move-in with Thompson.
Thompson also was sentenced to a lifetime of supervised release when he gets out of prison and ordered to pay a $4,383.00 fine.
