Traffic restricted on I-70 in downtown St. Louis

News-DemocratFebruary 3, 2014

Work on Interstate 70 in downtown St. Louis has eastbound traffic restricted to one lane until Monday afternoon.

The work, which includes the removal of a retaining wall and pavement repairs, is taking place in the depressed lanes of the interstate between the Poplar Street and Pine Street bridges.

Part of a project to better link downtown St. Louis to the riverfront by capping the depressed part of I-70, the job was originally expected to start Friday. Then it was going to be postponed until next weekend.

But the Missouri Department of Transportation decided to go ahead with the work Sunday, closing the eastbound lanes of the interstate at 6 p.m. One eastbound lane opened at 5 a.m. Monday with the other expected to open by 3 p.m.
