An Alton woman and a Belleville man have been charged with felony theft after they allegedly tried to take flashlights and light bulbs from Walmart.

According to the Madision County Sheriff's Department, at about 2:40 p.m. Saturday, Brittney R. Turner, 28, of 2012 Mulberry St. in Alton, and Antione D. Parker, 33, of 4112 S. Park Drive in Belleville, were spotted by security at the Godfrey Walmart attempting to conceal merchandise in Turner's purse.

The couple were confronted by store security and the flashlights and light bulbs were recovered. But the suspects fled in a white sports utility vehicle.

They were caught by Sheriff's Department deputies a short distance away. They were charged Monday with retail theft of more than $300 and were jailed on $15,000 bail each.
