Kahoks roll to girls regional crown at home

Collinsville senior Courtney Otradovec averaged just under 220 for her six-game block and two teammates also had solid days as the Kahoks raced to an easy win at the Collinsville Regional on Saturday at Camelot Bowl.

The individual champion with 1,319 pins, Otradovec scored a 35-pin win over Columbia senior Miranda Rodenhofer (1,284), as the Kahoks raced past O'Fallon and Belleville West for the title.

Katelynn Wirtel (1,272) and Lindsey Collins (1,243) also had good days for Collinsville, which finished with 6,236 pins. O'Fallon (5,775), Belleville West (5,504) and Columbia (5,264) rounded out the top four teams which will advance to the Alton Sectional on Feb. 15 at Bowl Haven in Godfrey.

Sisters Jordan Kasza (1,265) and Madison Kasza (1,134) led the way for O'Fallon. Third-place Belleville West got a 1,231 total from Syleena White and 1,200 from Nikki Dunn.

Several other local players also moved on to the sectional as individuals.

Leading the locals was Dupo's Courtney Angus (1,200), Mascoutah's Courtney Wombacher (1,153), Jessica Nova (1,150) and Shannon Gramm (1,075), Belleville East's Katey Sauerwein (1,144) and Jasmine Sangster (1,047), Cahokia's Amber Lourwood (1,091) and Cassie Martin (1,064), Granite City's Shelby Hall (1,048) and Freeburg's Brittany Draughn (1,044).

Alton Regional

It was a good day for teams from the Mississippi Valley Conference as the Highland Bulldogs and Triad Knights earned sectional bids with top-four team efforts at the Airport Bowl in Bethalto.

Host Alton won the title with a score of 5,718 pins, while Highland (5,122), Triad (5,090) and Pana (4,807) also will advance to the Alton Sectional.

Sophomore Makayla Smith led Highland with 1,102 pins. Michelle Fresen paced Triad with 1,105.

Edwardsville senior Meagan Mayo won the individual championship with a score of 1,205. Tiger teammates Amelia Williams (1,025) and Mary Garner (961) also will move on as individuals.

Herrin Regional

The Waterloo Bulldogs had four bowlers with totals of 1,008 pins or better as they placed second at Herrin Bowl on Saturday.

Host Herrin won the title with a team score of 5,527 while Waterloo (5,395), Salem (5,262) and Mount Vernon (5,105) also will advance to the Alton Sectional.

Waterloo was led by Gabriella Hoge (1,165), Payge Hunter (1,129), Megan Vogt (1,094) and Sam Matzig (1,008).
