Once the dominant wrestling power in Southern Illinois, the Cahokia Comanches flexed their muscles once again Saturday at the Class 2A Mascoutah Regional.
Junior Marlon Manuel won the 113-pound title and state-ranked Dameon Adams breezed to the 120-pound crown as the Comanches defeated Mississippi Valley Conference champion Triad for the team championship.
Deairis Tipler (132 pounds), Derrell Hinkle (160) and Shelton Pippin (220) also won individual crowns for Cahokia, which finished with 176 points, 38 more than Triad.
Cahokia will advance eight wrestlers to the Mahomet-Seymour Sectional on Friday and Saturday
Junior Cole Wysocki led the way for second-place Triad, which also will have eight wrestlers at Mahomet-Seymour.
Wysocki won the 126-pound crown, while teammates Alex Crehan (170) and John McKinney (195) also won titles.
Other local regional winners were Chrishon Tucker (106) and SirRomeo Howard (145) of East St. Louis and Paul Stewart (138) and Pat Bieber (182) of Waterloo.
Defending 285-pound state champ Tanner Farmer of Highland remained undefeated when he pinned Antonio James of East St. Louis in 2 minutes, 29 seconds of their title bout.
Class 1A Mount Olive Regional
Althoff sophomore Jarrid Braunagel remained undefeated in the 120-pound weight class, while Cody Harris and Rodney Baker also won titles to lead the way for the Crusaders at Mount Olive High School.
Ranked second at 120, Braunagel improved to 40-0 with a 17-1 win by technical fall over Jarod Foiles of Roxana.
Harris won the 132-pound title with a pin in 3:55 seconds of Hillsboro's Mitchell Law. Baker pinned Michael Johnson of Hillsboro in 1:05 to win the title at 285.
All three Althoff wrestlers will advance to Robinson Sectional, which begins Friday.
Roxana (202 points) nipped Litchfield (188) for the team title.
Class 1A Murphysboro Regional
Sparta junior Anthony Carter placed third at 145 and was one of three Bulldogs to advance out of the Murphysboro Regional.
Micah Bradshaw (170) and Collin Hawkins (220) also claimed top-three finishes for Sparta.
Red Bud will be represented at the Robinson Sectional by Trevor Barbeau, who was third at 152.
Class 1A Vandalia Regional
Mater Dei junior Calvin Heimann provided the lone bright spot for metro-east wrestlers with a third-place finish at 170 at Vandalia High School.
Heimann will advance to the Robinson Sectional. Carlyle also competed at Vandalia but failed to advance any individuals.
