Melvin R. Reinacher, 88, of Marine died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at Highland Health Care Center in Highland.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 11 at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland and from 9 to 10 a.m. on Feb. 12 at United Church of Christ of Marine. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Feb. 12 at United Church of Christ of Marine, with the Rev. Philip H. Kershner, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Highland City Cemetery.
He was born on Nov. 14, 1925, in Highland to Albert Louis and Emma Louise (Sudhoff) Reinacher. On April 14, 1945, he married Elizabeth Ann Liz Plocher, who passed away on Aug. 8, 2004.
Mr. Reinacher was reared in Highland. At age 13, his family moved to a farm southwest of Highland, and he attended Oak Grove Country School, then Highland High School.
He farmed south of Highland and later southeast of Highland. In 1951, he moved to a farm east of Marine. He operated a grain and livestock farm all his life. He had worked at the old Hagnauer-Koebel Dealership for a number of years and later for the state of Illinois for over 24 years, retiring in the early 1990s.
He enjoyed wood working, collecting antique machinery, John Deere tractors, restored antique gas engines and liked to garden.
He was a member of United Church of Christ of Marine, the Bond County Antique Machinery Club, and the Madison County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include daughters, Kay A. (William) Zengel of Wildwood, Mo., and Sandra M. (Thomas A.) Hosemann of Highland; sons, Dennis M. (Rivia E.) Reinacher of Highland and Kenneth R. (Lynn A.) Reinacher of Marine; grandchildren, Kelly A. (Joe) Marshall of St. Louis, Mo.; grandchildren, Kerry E. (Steve) Cook of Wildwood, Mo., Kimberly M. Zengel of Wildwood, Mo., Brandi L. (significant other Kenneth Butch Kruckeberg) Reinacher of Troy, Anna L. Reinacher of Marine, Sara L. (Erick) Seger of St. Jacob, Lacey E. Feigl of Highland, Luke T. Feigl of Highland; a step-grandchild, Angelina H. H. Hosemann of St. Louis, Mo.; great-grandchildren, William Edward Cook of Wildwood, Mo., and Cameron William Marshall of St. Louis, Mo.; and sisters, Delores E. (Dean) Rinderer of Highland and Virginia I. (Anton Tony) Vosholler of Highland.
He was preceded in death by his father, who died on Nov. 15, 1985; his mother, who died on July 8, 1986; a grandchild, Dennis E. Reinacher, who died on Feb. 2, 2001; a sister, Dorothy Reinacher, who died at birth; and a brother, Curtis A. Reinacher, who died on Sept. 28, 2013.
