Gloria J. Baker, 87, of Highland died Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at St. Josephs Hospital in Highland.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 13 and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Feb. 14 at Meridith Funeral Home in Highland. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 14 at Meridith Funeral Home in Highland, with the Rev. Dr. Beverly Wilkes Null, pastor, Highland Hope United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. on Feb. 14 in Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon, Ill.
She was born on Feb. 21, 1926, in Mason, Ill., to James W. and Vera May (Douglas) Reynolds. On Oct. 6, 1946, she married Leo S. Baker in Mattoon, Ill., and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1994.
Mrs. Baker was a member of Broadway Christian Church in Mattoon, Ill. She was a past president of the Trainmen Ladies Organization in Mattoon. She lived to serve others. She worked with the Piece Meal Program in Mattoon. She was recognized by the city of Mattoon as a Top Volunteer for the community. She was a very caring and giving woman with her time and efforts. She loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Arlen Cord (Barbara) Baker of Highland; granddaughters, Dr. Audra (Dr. Derrick) Ward of Overland Park, Kan., Jamie (Douglas) Kuehl of Troy, and Kristi (Corey) Perigo of Alhambra; and great-grandchildren, Barrett Ward and Skylar Perigo.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; and a s sister, Theda Reynolds, who died in childhood.
