Evelyn V. McGibany, 88, of New Douglas died on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at Heritage Health in Staunton.
Visitation will be held on from 4 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 14 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Douglas. A funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Feb. 15 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Douglas, with the Rev. Mark E. Sidney, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento. Lesicko Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
She was born on June 24, 1925, in New Douglas Township to William J. and Katherine W. (Stechman) Eilers. She was married to Erette G. McGibany. He preceded her in death on Oct. 3, 1978.
Mrs. McGibany was an inspector for Olin Corp. in Alton for 40 years and a 60-year member of the International Association of Machinists Workers Local 660.
She was also a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Douglas; Tobias Bilyeu American Legion Post 710 Ladies Auxiliary in New Douglas; VFW Post 3912 Ladies Auxiliary in Litchfield; and a was Gold Circle Member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, as well as a member of the New Douglas Senior Citizens.
Survivors included a sister, Esther File; a brother-in-law, Elmer Prante; a sister-in-law, Genevieve Eilers; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Elmer Eilers and Eldon Eilers, who died in infancy; and sisters, Ella Bloemker and Erma Prante.
Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or to Sunnyside Cemetery.
