— After developing leads from witnesses on a person of interest in connection with a shooting that occurred Saturday in Cahokia, police launched a search and found him in Springfield.

The 18-year-old is not being identified pending warrant applications. He was located by the U.S. Marshals Service in Springfield on Monday, Cahokia Police Chief James Jones said.

The 24-year-old victim, whose name has not been released, remains in critical condition in an area hospital, Jones said.

Jones said the suspect and victim were at a home on Marilyn and the shooting occurred outside of a home on Marilyn.

"He fled the area, but we were able to develop some strong leads that led us to Springfield where he was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals in Springfield," Jones said.

The teenager was turned over to Cahokia police a short time after he was arrested and was being held at the police department.

Jones said police are still investigating a motive for the shooting.
