A driver lost control of his car Tuesday morning and crashed it into Alton Memorial Hospital.
The motorist, a senior citizen who has not been identified, was unconscious when help arrived at his vehicle. A hospital spokesman said a medical condition is believed to have caused the crash. When help arrived at the car the driver's foot was still on the accelerator with the engine revving.
His car skipped the curb and drove about 30 yards across a snowy lawn before hitting the building. Bricks were cracked and pushed in at the point of impact, which was just below a window in a patient's room.
Hospital spokesman Dave Whaley told the media that the patient was upset by the accident but that no one inside the hospital was hurt. The patient was moved to a new room.
The driver was taken into the hospital, but there was no immediate word on his condition.
