Taxpayers stuck with Cantwell's contract

February 14, 2014

Once again we, as taxpayers, are on the receiving end of another scam called Cantwell's contract. MidAmerica Airport Director Tim Cantwell gets an undeserved $124,000 salary to run the airport to nowhere and now will receive an additional $13,000 bonus as a token of his loyalty to St. Clair County Board Chairman Mark Kern.

Kern has once again proven to be fiscally irresponsible by allowing this type of clause into anyone's contract.

The implementation of a so-called program to harvest timber isn't a program; one doesn't need a program to get one's timber looted.

We as taxpayers would like to know how much money was made from the sale of the taxpayers' lumber. Typically it only takes a couple of phone calls to get a logger out to one's property to make a deal for clearing lumber. The logger usually gets 66 percent of the lumber sale, the seller gets a mere 33 percent and the mess that is left behind.

Obviously there is something shady in this tree deal.

The stupidity of county voters is once again to blame for the continuing saga of Kern's assault upon our tax revenue.
