A Madison County man has been charged with failure to register as a sex offender.

James E. Gergen, 51, of 3241 W. Chain of Rocks Road, was warned by a Madison County Sheriff's Department deputy Feb. 11 that he was required to update his registration as a sex offender within three days because he moved, according to sheriff's department reports.

By Monday, Gergen had not registered his new address, according to Madison County Sheriff's Department Capt. T. Mike Dixon, so a deputy arrested him.

Gergen was jailed on $25,000 bail.
