A lightning bolt branches out across the sky behind some houses.

The warm air that finally melted the snow left by winter storms over the past couple of weeks could bring rough weather of a different variety Thursday.

According to the National Weather service, spring-like thunderstorms are expected Thursday. They are likely to come with downpours of rain, strong winds and hail. There is a slight chance conditions could become severe and a tornado could form.

The high temperature is expected to reach 64 on Thursday. Thunderstorms and wind gusts could reach 25 mph.

National Weather Service maps indicate the most likely area for rough weather will be to the south of the St. Louis area.

The storms should blow out of the area by Friday when skies are expected to be sunny with a high of 54. The average high temperature is 47 for this time of year in the St. Louis area.
