— Madison County approved $500,000 in a housing investments grant for the county's public housing complex in Edwardsville.

The May Building at 1701 Bryant Ave. offers housing for the elderly and the disabled through the Madison County Housing Authority. It currently has 42 one-bedroom units and four two-bedroom units.

Now it's undergoing a major renovation, adding another 24 units and renovating the existing property. The $14.1 million project is being funded from a number of sources, including the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program and the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

Madison County is contributing $500,000 through its HOME Investments Partnership Program. The contribution was approved unanimously at the board's regular meeting Wednesday.

The May Building has full occupancy and has a waiting list.

The board also honored the Edwardsville Liberty Middle School girls' basketball season for capturing the state championship with a 28-0 season.
