A suspect accused of possession of counterfeit currency has pleaded guilty to the crime in federal court.

Dana L. Causey, 24 of Fort Wayne, Ind., pleaded Thursday at the East St. Louis Federal Courthouse one year to the day after he was arrested, U.S. District Attorney Stephen Wigginton said. He admitted that he planned to spend the fake cash in the Fairview Heights area.

Causey's sentencing hearing has been scheduled for June 19 in East St. Louis. At that time he could face up to 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
